There’s a sweet sort of melancholia that hangs around in the last week of August; when the crabapples turn rosy, and conkers begin to fall, summer holidays are packed away, and pencils are sharpened. It’s a week of endings and beginnings, a slow unfolding, a bending, warping, crumpling of one season into the next.
