Nigella ‘Delft Blue'
Nigella, also known as Love-In-The-Mist, for its delicate flowers appearing out from its gauzy fronded foliage, is an absolute must in the cutting garden.
This variety is stronger and longer lasting than most Nigellas. It is beautifully streaked with blue- as thought the petals have been painted.,
It ticks so many boxes; it's easy to grow, self-seeds, and with successional sowings, you can have continual supply from late spring through to the frosts. The seed heads make excellent textural filler for bouquets, and are perfect for drying, as a serious bonus- the seeds can be used in cooking, and the petals are edible too. What's not to love!
I let these self seed and move the seedlings around in Autumn to overwinter where I'd like them to flower come Spring. I then direct sow every two weeks from early spring. They would benefit from thinning, but I never do and they handle it very well. Very low maintenance.
I wouldn't be without these starry flowers. A must grow.
